Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were vandalized, sometimes with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked vehicles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement say preliminary tests show the substance was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have appealed to the public for information.
An important political figure said the vandalism rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the murder of nine people by a gunman targeting individuals of foreign heritage in five years prior.
